Rankings for the levels nobody ranks well.

This page is an announcement, not a table. There are no YourDataScouting rankings yet. This is what is being built, how it will work, and when it is meant to be here, written down in advance so a coach can hold it to that.

Why

Below D1, most of what passes for a ranking is a coaches poll. Coaches vote for the programs they have heard of, which means a good team in a quiet conference stays invisible and a program with a name stays ranked a month after it stopped deserving it. Nobody has time to watch every level, so name recognition does the work that results should be doing.

And nothing covers D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO with the same method across all four. Each level has its own polls, run their own way, so you cannot compare across them and you cannot really trust the comparison inside them either. Softball gets less of even that.

What YourDataScouting will publish

  • Weekly rankings in season, by level and by sport: D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO, baseball and softball, each on its own page.
  • Built from results and schedule strength. Who you beat and who you played, not who has heard of you.
  • The method published alongside the table. The inputs, the weights and what changed since last week, in plain language, so a coach who disagrees can point at the part he disagrees with.
  • Conference pages, so a program can see where its league sits and where it sits inside its league.

What it will not do

  • No paywall. The rankings are free to read and free to link to. They are not a lead magnet with a form in front of them.
  • No votes. No poll, no ballots, no committee. If a team moves, something on the field moved it, and the method page will say what.

When

The first release is targeted for the 2027 season. That is a target, not a promise. A ranking that goes out before the data behind it is solid is worse than no ranking, and this one is not going up until the results and schedule coverage at all four levels are good enough to stand behind. If it slips, this page will say so rather than quietly moving the date.
